10 Health Benefits That Justify Medical Marijuana Use

Here are 10 health benefits of medical marijuana:

  1. Alzheimer’s Disease
THC helps in reducing the growth of Alzheimer’s disease. THC inhibits the formation of enzymes and protein clumps that contribute to this brain-decimating disease. A 2014 study confirmed the therapeutic effects of THC on Alzheimer’s disease.
  2. Epilepsy
Marijuana aids in controlling the frequency and spontaneity of seizures. According to the National Institute on Drug Abuse, CBC may help in reducing epileptic seizures. In a 2017 clinical trial published in the New England Journal of Medicine, cannabidiol (CBD) was also found to be helpful in treating severe epilepsy.

  3. Multiple Sclerosis
By alleviating pain experienced by sufferers of MS, marijuana gives them a greater level of comfort while dealing with their illness. At the American Academy of Neurology, researchers found that medical marijuana, if taken in the form of oral sprays or pills, can reduce muscle spasms and stiffness in MS.
  4. Glaucoma
Glaucoma is a disease that may result in blindness. Used since the 1970’s to treat glaucoma, marijuana alleviates intraocular pressure and may help to reverse deterioration. THC and CBD in cannabis help in relieving nerve pain, reducing inflammation, nausea, and vomiting.

  5. Arthritis
This can be a very painful disease, and marijuana provides excellent pain-relieving benefits for those who have arthritis. There are certain strains of medical marijuana that help with joint pain, inflammation, insomnia, mood, and appetite enhancement.

  6. Depression
Marijuana provides a less depressed mood and greater positive effects for those suffering from chronic depression. Apart from impacting the mood, certain strains help in insomnia, reducing fatigue, increasing appetite and weight.

  7. Anxiety
Marijuana works well for easing anxiety and panic attacks. Cannabidiol (CBD) offers substantial benefits to people who are suffering from anxiety disorders. A 2014 study found that marijuana may help in increasing endocannabinoids (naturally-occurring chemicals in the brain), which get reduced due to stress.

  8. Hepatitis C
Medical marijuana helps patients suffering from Hepatitis C complete their entire treatment regime by helping them endure the side effects of the treatment. It helps alleviate nausea, pain, depression, and loss of appetite.

  9. Morning Sickness
Marijuana use will help with minimizing nausea, loss of appetite, and physical discomfort. However, it’s best to consult your doctor before taking it.
  10. Cancer
Studies have found that THC and CBD slow the growth or kill certain cancer cells. Those undergoing chemotherapy benefit from the therapeutic effects of cannabis. Medical marijuana can treat nausea, pain, and loss of appetite that result from cancer therapy.

As medical marijuana offers many health benefits, more studies are going on to explore the full potential of this medicinal plant.

After all, many studies have shown that medical marijuana is effective and those patients with a variety of conditions from cancer to chronic pain to HIV can benefit from using marijuana on a prescription basis.

However, even if you obtain a prescription from a doctor, you can’t just go down to the pharmacy where you might pick up your other medication and purchase marijuana. It is tightly controlled and dispensed only by licensed medical marijuana dispensaries.

Still, if you are going to be using medical marijuana in Santa Ana, CA, you’re going to have to buy it from one of the medical marijuana dispensaries in Santa Ana, CA. Picking one isn’t always as easy as it sounds, especially if you don’t really know the difference between them.

Use this guide to help you understand more about what you should be looking for when buying medical marijuana in Orange County. It isn’t rocket science, but choosing the right weed dispensary in Santa Ana, CA can make a big difference in your overall experience, especially if you’re uncomfortable or unfamiliar with marijuana use for medical purposes.

Location
Location is an obvious factor when it comes to choosing where to buy your medical marijuana in Orange County. While you obviously don’t need to just find the closest marijuana dispensary to your home, you likely won’t want to pick one that is too far away from you.

In most cases, you’ll need to visit your weed dispensary regularly if you’re receiving prescribed medical marijuana in Orange County. You may also find that it is easier and more efficient to buy in smaller quantities and make more visits than buying in a larger quantity all at once.

This is especially true if you’re a new patient and you aren’t sure what type of marijuana will be best for your condition. In fact, many new patients try several different varieties until they find one that works particularly well for them.

Medicines Offered
When you’re shopping for medical marijuana in Orange County, or at least looking for Orange County dispensaries, you need to understand what they have to offer. After all, each business is going to have something a little bit different than the next one you come across.

Medical Marijuana

Knowledge of Medicines
Different medical marijuana dispensaries in Santa Ana, CA have different levels of knowledge over what they sell. Some actually have a license to grow and understand everything about cultivation. Others simply sell a product.

If you’re not quite sure what you need, a marijuana dispensary with knowledge of the medicine they are selling can be beneficial to you. However, weed dispensaries that don’t offer that knowledge may have better prices if you’re aware of what you need.

Evaluate what each Santa Ana dispensary has to offer when you visit.

Overall Environment
When evaluating whether or not you want to sign up with a medical marijuana dispensary in Santa Ana, CA, one of the things you really need to consider is the overall environment. When you visit for the first time, make sure you take note of what it will feel like to be a customer there.

Some Santa Ana medical marijuana dispensaries thrive on a safety environment and feature bulletproof glass and armed guards. If you live in the city, this might make you feel more comfortable. Others operate much more like coffee shops and without the visible presence of security guards.

Just make sure you choose the environment that you feel most comfortable in when picking out a medical marijuana dispensary in Santa Ana, CA for your personal use.

Medical Marijuana: Is It Better to Eat or Smoke Marijuana?

Around the globe people are using medical marijuana to treat as well as alleviate symptoms of certain health conditions that conventional medications cannot help. People are eating as well as smoking medical marijuana. Here is the key question. Is it better to smoke or eat marijuana?

Medical Marijuana: Is It Better to Eat or Smoke Marijuana?

Smoking Medical Marijuana: Pros

Smoking is the most common way of using medical marijuana. It provides immediate effect and the patient has the ability to control the dosage.

Smoking Medical Marijuana: Cons

The problem with smoking is that the ingredients in the smoke can result in respiratory problems such as coughing, excessive sputum production, wheezing and also result in lung damage. While clinical trials have come up with mixed results on the effects of smoking medical marijuana, many researchers believe that it contains carcinogens and toxins and this increases the risk of cancer and respiratory diseases. Those problems are the reason why researchers recommend people to look for some other method to consume medical marijuana. Some research has also shown that long-term smoking of medical marijuana can hasten the weakening of lung function.

Nonetheless, for many patients, smoking medical marijuana is often worth the long-term risks because it increases their quality of life.

Eating Medical Marijuana: Pros

For patients who experience lung and throat problems due to smoking of medical marijuana, there is edible medical marijuana available in the form of cookies, teas, lollipops and brownies. It is believed eating medical marijuana is a better way to ingest the THC, the active ingredient in cannabis. Eating medical marijuana has the following benefits:

  • Has a different effect on your mind and body
  • Desirable for people who want relief from anxiety, pain, or depression
  • Helps in distributing the effect of THC and other cannabinoids evenly across your body and brain
  • Prevents damage to your throat and mouth

Eating Medical Marijuana: Cons

When a patient eats medical marijuana, the active ingredient does not get absorbed into the blood as quickly as it would have if the patient had smoked the cannabis. As a result, the effects of the marijuana take longer time to manifest and it increases the chances of overdose.

How to Safely Eat Medical Marijuana

When you are eating medical marijuana, it takes hours to start affecting your mind and body. It’s important to follow a measured and empirical approach so you can enjoy the benefits of eating medical marijuana. Follow these steps to get the most out of medical marijuana:

  • Determine your limit. Get over-the-counter consumables as they contain measured amounts of medical marijuana.
    Wait before you eat more.
  • When you are making your own edibles, take a low dose. Wait for at least a few hours before you take another dose.
  • Infuse medical marijuana into oil or butter. The effects will be evenly distributed when you cook or bake.

Both smoking and eating medical marijuana have their own advantages and disadvantages. What sets them apart is the way they affect your body and mind.

Effectiveness of Medical Marijuana for Dogs

While there is a lot of debate about using medical marijuana for dogs, there is anecdotal, as well as scientific evidence, to show that this herbal-remedy has helped several pooches. When medical marijuana is administered in the right dosage, it does not cause side effects.

Effectiveness of Medical Marijuana for Dogs

Here are some of the benefits of medical marijuana for dogs:

Treats Cancer
When dog owners cannot afford chemotherapy, it is heart-wrenching for them to watch their pets wither away right in front of their eyes. Medical marijuana can be used on dogs with terminal cancer to improve their quality of life. It can help to alleviate the pain and discomfort caused by cancer.

Pain Management
Medical marijuana can restore the dog’s appetite and help them gain weight, so that their final months are not filled with pain and suffering. Many strains of marijuana have been developed that help to control pain, provide relief from nausea, and to stimulate appetite.

Helps in Arthritis
Medical marijuana also can provide relief to dogs suffering from arthritis and help in reducing inflammation of the joints.

Anxiety Treatment
Medical marijuana helps in relieving separation anxiety. They are also helpful for dogs that are afraid of thunderstorms and fireworks.

The Concern
While there is worry about pet owners unknowingly overdosing their dogs in an attempt to alleviate the pain and suffering, legalizing the use of marijuana to treat dogs will do away with this concern.

If dog owners have access to knowledgeable vets who can outline safe dosing guidelines, it will go a long way in helping dogs suffering from terminal and painful-chronic-diseases.

The Answer
Since medical marijuana appears to be benefiting sick and ill dogs, it should be legalized. This will allow dog owners to get the right dosage from a qualified- veterinarian and do away with the problem of overdosing.

There are some vets who favor legalizing medical marijuana for usage on dogs and other pets, as they know it can truly make a difference to their quality of life when used on its own or in conjunction with traditional medicinal therapies and treatments.

Medical Marijuana

Many cancer patients are now using medical marijuana, as more than half of the states have legalized its availability. A recent study carried out by two leading cancer research centers finds about 25 percent of cancer patients use marijuana to relieve a variety of physical and psychological symptoms.

Medical Marijuana

As per most of the study respondents, the reasons for which they use medical marijuana included pain, nausea, upset stomach, and stress. This is because cannabis is the only anti-nausea medicine that can increases appetite, help patients sleep, ease pain, and elevate their mood. Owing to the presence of Cannabidiol or CBD, a potent anti-cancer agent that not only poses strong antioxidant phytonutrients, but powerful ‘herbal chemo’ agents too.

While the studies so far have shown that cannabis can be safe in treating cancer, they do not show that they can help control or cure the disease. However, apart from the above mentioned benefits, there are four ways in which the herb is beneficial for cancer patients. And these very well reflect why many of them use medical marijuana in order to make their cancer battling experience easier.

  1. Relief from skin irritations. Skin irritations are common in patients undergoing conventional cancer treatment. The cannabinoids compound present in cannabis is very helpful in calming minor inflammation-based allergic reactions like allergic dermatitis. Moreover, while most patients inhale cannabis, the herb can also be applied topically in balms and salves for a relief from itchy side effects of cancer treatments.
  2. Promotes mental well-being. Going through times of severe illness can take a toll on mental health. But we all know that cannabis is loved by many for its euphoric and mood stimulating properties. Therefore, it turns out to be a popular choice among cancer patients to improve their mood and to promote a positive sense of well-being.
  3. Improves appetite management. Loss of appetite is a major side effect of chemotherapy drugs. However, use of medical marijuana stimulates a sudden increase in appetite for cancer patients by releasing the primary hunger hormone ghrelin. It also boosts the pleasure response to food in the brain, which helps the cancer patients get more enjoyment from eating.
  4. Helps fight digestive distress. Constipation and diarrhea are two known side effects of cancer treatment. Constipation is often associated with imbalance in the bacterial communities of the intestinal tract, whereas diarrhea is associated with inflammation in the intestinal tract. Researches show that cannabis compounds not only promote a more balanced internal ecosystem, as well as also reduce inflammation that contributes to intestinal distress.

CBD Can Help in Improving Your Health

CBD Can Help in Improving Your Health

Scientists and society cannot deny that cannabinoid’s (one of the most active ingredients of cannabis) benefits are real. Cannabinoids, also known as CBD, produce strong medicinal and therapeutic effects for even the most common health conditions.

Researchers have proven that CBD promotes homeostasis at every level of biological life. Homeostasis regulates every metabolic process in your body, such as pain sensation, appetite, temperature regulation, stress reactivity, immune function and sleep. What’s more interesting is that even muscle and fat tissues utilize these receptors to control their processes.

With this being said, let’s have a look at some of the major health issues in which you can fully utilize the medicinal value of CBD:

  • Helps in the Treatment of Epilepsy
Every year, almost 150,000 Americans are diagnosed with epilepsy, and most of them turn to mind-numbing medications, brain surgeries and invasively implanted electrical stimulation devices, with little to no relief. However, researchers have shown that CBD has anti-seizure activity and it can be used successfully to treat drug-resistant, epileptic children, with no side effects. Also, CBD oil is a good option for people with seizures because it prevents them from choking.
  • Promising Implications as an Anti-depressant
According to the Anxiety and Depression Association of America, approximately 1.5 percent of the adult population in the US is affected by persistent depressive disorder, PDD. That’s about 3.3 million American adults. CBD’s use has positively impacted behavior and reduced psychological stress by showing anti-depressant like actions in many.
  • Beneficial in Reducing Chronic Pain
Studies indicate that this magical compound can help reduce chronic pain, which is fantastic because in recent times America is witnessing a serious and deadly opioid epidemic. Moreover,
CBD also regulates immune functions and shows positive effects where neurons have been damaged; thus, making it an effective treatment for ALS, Alzheimer’s, Parkinson’s and for effectively blocking the progression of arthritis.
  • Plays a Positive Role in Weight Management
CBD plays a positive role in your metabolism and body weight regulation by stimulating genes and proteins that enhance the breakdown and oxidation of fat. It also increases the body’s ability to burn calories by improving insulin sensitivity.

The above points clearly emphasize that CBD can help improve health, as well as provide effective treatment in a number of health issues.

The winter is a season where catching the flu or a common cold may be a regular occurrence. One method to combat this is through drinking herbal tea. Due to increased medical marijuana efforts, cannabis tea has begun to grow in popularity. The tea has shown an effect in dealing with cold and flu-like symptoms.

Marijuana Tea
Benefits of the Marijuana Tea

The tea gives people the effects of cannabis without aggravating their flu-like or cold symptoms. Drinking the medical marijuana tea can provide relief of symptoms for a number of hours. By causing calmness and restful sleep, you will be able to relax, which gives your body more time to heal. The tea also helps strengthen your immune system, as well as offer protection from potential infections. You will be better equipped to help fight the virus in your body, and you will also avoid catching another illness while you are dealing with the flu or a cold.

How to Make Marijuana Tea

The process of making medical marijuana tea involves more than just adding hot water to the tea leaves. You can add cannabis leaves to your tea. Adding vegetable oil helps dissolve the cannabis content into the tea. You can mix any type of tea in the solution with the leaves. Keep in mind that the tea will not be as strong without adding an oil-soluble ingredient to dissolve its active ingredient THC. Consider adding butter or oil for the desired effect.

Use Flavors to Enhance the Taste

Medical marijuana tea tastes similar to regular tea. However, adding milk or spices will help to increase the flavor. There are other unique items that you could consider adding to increase the flavor in the tea such as honey, lemon, or cinnamon.

Find the Correct Dosage of Tea

If you have not tried marijuana before, it is recommended to start with a very small dose. You can try 1/2 a cup (125 ml) per day. However, if you are a regular user, you can try 1 cup (250 ml) every 24 hours. If you notice that the effect is not enough, you can increase the dose to 2 cups every 24 hours, which you can take at 12 hours interval.

THC per Cup of Tea

The amount of THC per cup of tea depends on the strain(s) you have used to prepare the tea. If you have used 1 gm of cannabis having 10% THC content, the tea would have approx. 100 mg of THC. The strength of your tea depends on how long you boil it, the longer the stronger.

Effects of Marijuana Tea on Your Body

Marijuana tea takes around 30-90 minutes to feel the full impact. People who have a lower body mass or higher metabolism may feel the effect quickly while those who have a denser body mass or slower metabolism may not feel the effect until after 2 hours.

If you are trying this tea for the first time, be in a safe and familiar environment until you come to know how your body will react. The effects can last for 4-8 hours. These long-lasting effects are helpful in treating cold and chronic conditions.
